The famous boulevard circles the city centre of Vienna, located in the first district separates this district from the other districts.
The most advisable way to take the tour of the ring would be by foot or by tram (Line 1 and 2) as both trams run around the circle and you can literally hop on and off whenever you wish.
The trip is well worth it as you get to take in all the fantastic historical buildings along the way that you may miss while visiting the city in one trip. You will get a chance to see the State Opera, the Imperial Palace, Vienna University and the Ringturm to name just a few.
Franz Joseph was responsible for the construction of the ring, which was originally constructed back in 1857, and stretches out over four kilometres.
