The Museum of Baroque Art is actually housed in the Belvedere Place, which is another of Vienna’s famous attractions.
The Lower Belvedere was constructed in 1714 by Johann Lucas von Hildebrandt. Reconstruction then took place and the Baroque Museum was eventually opened in 1923.
The living quarters of Prince Eugene and the staterooms are a wonderful attraction in this Baroque home. The Baroque Museum provides some of the world’s most amazing masterpieces by Martino Altomonte, Franz Anton Maulbertsch and Johann Michael Rottmayr and Fran Xaver. It also houses the initial statues from the Donner Fountain on Neuer Markt and also fantastic 17th and 18th century paintings and sculptures.
Probably the most dominant features include the Hall of Mirrors and the Hall of Grotesques. All these comprehensive works put together really make up a mind blowing collection of Baroque art.
