Anchor Clock

Vienna
Visit Vienna’s famous Anchor Clock at midday to view an entertaining little show. Many historical figures appear in this show along with some light and pleasant music. The clock was created back in 1917 to celebrate many past Austrian figures including Prince Eugen, Empress Maria Theresa, Joseph Haydn and many more.

The Anchor Clock is located in Hoher Markt, Vienna’s oldest square. It’s created like a bridge and connects one side of the street to the other. From midday to midnight, a historical figure will move across the bridge for every hour.

These figures are used to tell the time as the 12 figures represent the different hours on the clock. Each figure has the numbers over their heads in roman numerals.

While here, don’t forget to listen to the organ hymns with 1,000 pipes attached reciting “Gott erhalte” a traditional Austrian song. It’s a fantastic monument, be sure to pay the square a visit.
