The Spanish Riding School

Vienna
This well known school is one of Vienna’s most famous attractions and it’s the only organization in the world where classical equestrian is still carried out.

The two reasons the school is called The Spanish Riding School are because when it was first set up, the horses that were used came from Spain and also the famous Lipizzans originated from Spanish horses. The Lipizzans are probably the focal attraction with the school and it is said that they are the oldest classical horse in Europe.

The building itself provides excellent facilities for training and presenting the Lipizzans. The performances that are carried out are remarkable where you’ll see individual, paired and Grand Quadrille (16 horses together) horses all walking, prancing and trotting.

All the shows take place in the Winter Riding School and are about 8- minutes long. If you treat yourself to a visit, you’ll want to go back again. Make sure to check out the mouth-watering Sachertorte in the Sacher café – delicious.
