St. Stephen’s Cathedral offers visitors an opportunity to appreciate the superb displays of Gothic Architecture. It was constructed in 1147 AD and is one of Vienna’s most famous monuments.
Tourists gather here to get a glimpse at the Cathedral’s amazing roof and its tall south tower. The massive roof is very long and has amazing patterns on it. It has a total of 230,000 glossy tiles and is decorated in numerous colours.
The massive Tower is another dominant feature belonging to the Cathedral and it is nearly 500 ft high. It was built in the early 15th century and features an eagle emblem and Habsburg Loraine coat of arms.
The Cathedral has a total of 23 bells with the largest one located in the North Tower. The bell is only used a few times during the year. Other amazing features include 18 alters. Be sure to see the High Alter which is made of marble. Its hard to miss as it’s the most dominant alter!
The beautiful Gothic stone pulpit, the numerous chapel’s catacombs and tombs are all sights to behold. This amazing building is a must see and you’ll find yourself coming back again and again!
