Vienna is an astonishing city, riddled by contradiction, because it is both ancient and very modern. The Romanesque and Baroque architecture of the city centre has been declared a world heritage site and you could happily spend your day just walking around marvelling at the buildings. However the city has experienced something of a renaissance in recent times, the city is still young and dynamic with a healthy contemporary art and music culture.
Vienna is the largest city in Austria and is situated in the far east of the country near the borders with the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary. The Danube is the European Unions longest river and it runs through the city. It is still as important today as a waterway as it was centuries ago. Vienna is home to the famous composers Mozart and Johann Strauss.
